Integrated Pest Management

IPM is the most comprehensive and effective method of pest control. Eden provides IPM services that are unique to your industry and your facilities, managing and preventing pest situations at all stages. Instead of solely relying on material application for control, Eden's IPM approach focuses on four key levels of control:

1. Keeping pests from entering the facility (Physical Exclusion and Access Denial).
2. Making the location unattractive to pests (Habitat and Harborage Modification).
3. Utilizing traps and deterring mechanisms (Physical and Mechanical Controls).
4. Limited or Focused Material Application, only when necessary and in conjunction with the first 3 levels. We also use EPA exempt products that allow us to be effective and organic!

Mosquitoes

Health officials in the Northwest have increased their concern of West Nile Virus, which is carried by migratory birds and transmitted to hosts by mosquitoes. WNV has proven fatal for one third of horses that experience clinical symptoms. In 2009, WNV affected 79 horses and 38 humans in Washington State; 5 horses and 11 humans in Oregon. Central Washington holds most of the cases because of the migratory bird population that moves through those counties.  However, the number of WNV cases is growing so preventative measures should be taken throughout Washington and Oregon.

Flies

There are many different types of flies that bother cattle and horses. Some, such as houseflies, feed off manure; while others, known as face flies, feed off secretions from the eyes. The most damaging flies are blood-sucking flies that feed off animals. These will often ravage the skin, leaving it raw and bloody. The blood feeders can spread blood-born disease, such as infectious equine anemia. One type of blood sucking fly, called a culicoid, can cause severe allergic reactions in some horses.
