Organic Pest Control After the Storm

We’ve made it! Western Washington and Western Oregon just suffered a large-scale weather event, and we’re on the other side. The weather forecasters tell us it’s back to the usual rain, which most of us are more than happy to see. What does this mean for your organic pest control efforts in the Greater Seattle and Portland area? Well, collaborating with your technician is never more crucial than right now. Here are some things to be on the lookout for:

• Downed branches: Trees can often act as “highways” to your home. Rodents and insects can often move across these limbs, creating the potential for a new infestation. If the recent storm left you with limbs touching your home, be sure to remove them as soon as possible and let your technician know – we will be sure to do monitoring in that area for any new activity.
• Vent covers: Did the snow and debris knock out some vent covers due to weight or wind? Make sure to get these repaired as soon as is practical, and let your technician know so that we can do a check in your crawlspace for any evidence of an infestation.
• Water damage: Water damage can lead to insects such as dampwood termites and moisture ants – both pests that are incredibly difficult to treat. If your home suffered from water damage, remove all damp materials. Also, let your technician know. We may be able to suggest some preventative measures.
