Eden @ School: Featuring Cody Pace in Seattle

Cody Pace, one of Eden’s Commercial IPM Consultants, is also one of our most talented school speakers.  In May and June he visited a couple groups of 1st graders in the Seattle area to talk about pests common to the Northwest.

Insect biology is often part of the curriculum at that grade level so it is beneficial for elementary schools to invite a pest professional in as a guest speaker. Younger students are excited to learn the difference between “good bugs” and “bad bugs” and what makes a bug or rodent a “pest.”

“I was amazed at how well the kids were taught by their teachers as evident in their knowledge of insects,” says Cody, “I’m always happy to know that there are new BugDude’s and BugDudette’s out there in the world.” Often he tells the kids they can refer to him by his nickname, “Bugdude.”

Cody uses props, photos and humor to engage the kids with stories and fun facts about pests and pest behavior. He also brings along some Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches for the students to look at and touch if they so desire as well as coloring sheets of all the pests he talks about.

Speaking at schools is something Eden has offered for the past few years.  It has become our favorite way to give back to the community.
